Benefits Of Avocados

As a Certified Nutrition Coach, avocados are one of my favorite foods (check out why I think every toddler should have them in their diet) because they work in everything!

This is because they are jam-packed with nourishment.

  • Are loaded with healthy fats
  • Have been shown to help boost brain development
  • Can help regulate cholesterol
  • May help prevent osteoporosis
  • A complete protein (not high in protein but contain all essential amino acids)

Plus, they make everything creamy. In fact, they're a secret ingredient in learning how to build well-balanced smoothies.

Ingredients You Need

Avocados: The riper the better as they create a creamier texture. if your avocados are hard, the texture will be chunky.

Cacao powder: This chocolate powder is loaded with antioxidants and other amazing nutrients. Learn more about cacao versus cocoa powder.

Maple syrup: For the best possible flavor, use real Canadian maple syrup. This way you skip the processed oils too.

How To Make It Into A High Protein Snack

To make this pudding recipe into a high-protein snack, add in 2 tablespoons of collagen powder. Collagen powder is the cleanest source of protein out there and does more than just give you beautiful hair, skin and nails.

It keeps you full! Learn more about collagen powder versus protein powder and which foods are high in collagen so that you can start upping your intake.

Whole30 Swap

If you need this avocado pudding recipe to be whole30-approved, eliminate the maple syrup and use dates instead.

Soak your dates (roughly 5 of them but adjust as per preference) in warm water for 20 minutes prior to blending them. This helps them blend easier into the pudding.

Frequently Asked Questions About Avocado Chocolate Pudding

Does it taste like avocados?

No! This chocolate avocado pudding is rich, creamy, and delicious. It tends to be super thick but the maple syrup and cacao powder give it a dark chocolate flavor. Keep in mind that you can adjust the sweetness based on preference as well. But there is zero avocado taste.

How long does healthy chocolate avocado pudding last?

Truthfully, this dairy-free chocolate pudding is best eaten within 30 minutes to 4 hours of making it. It needs a minute to chill in the fridge and then it's perfect. Any longer than 24 hours in the fridge, it starts to turn a funky brown color from the avocados. it still tastes alright but it's not aesthetically pleasing.

Do you need ripe avocados to make chocolate pudding?

Yes. Avocado pudding is best when the avocados are ripe and squishy. This is when the texture will be ultra-creamy.

Helpful Kitchen Tools

You'll notice in this video I use an avocado pitter and peeler. This is actually one of my favorite kitchen tools!

While this is definitely not necessary, it is handy as hell. Every summer I pit and peel 30 or so avocados and it makes the process SO much easier.

You'll also need a high-powered blender or mini food processor.
